Tomball Rotary Club Honors Community Service with Support for Tidy Up Tomball, Citizen of the Year Recognition for Amanda Trickey
Keeping Tomball clean has become a community-wide effort powered by hundreds of volunteers, local businesses, nonprofit organizations and civic leaders. This week, that collaborative spirit received another boost as the Tomball Rotary Club presented a donation to Tidy Up Tomball in support of the organization's upcoming Fall 2026 Community Cleanup while also recognizing one of its driving forces with one of the club's highest honors.
During the Rotary Club's final meeting of its 2025-2026 Rotary year, Amanda Trickey, president of Tidy Up Tomball and owner of Modern Marketing & Media, was named the Tomball Rotary Club's 2026 Citizen of the Year for her commitment to serving the community and her work to make Tomball a cleaner, stronger place to live.
The recognition highlights the growing impact of volunteer-driven organizations across Tomball, where partnerships between nonprofits, civic organizations, businesses and residents continue to shape the city's future.
Tomball Rotary Club Invests in Tidy Up Tomball's Next Cleanup
In addition to recognizing Trickey, the Tomball Rotary Club presented a donation to Tidy Up Tomball that will help support the organization's Fall 2026 cleanup event, continuing a partnership centered on community service and civic pride.
In a social media post, Tidy Up Tomball expressed its appreciation, sharing that it was honored to attend the meeting and grateful for the Rotary Club's generous support.
The Rotary Club also reflected on the meeting as it concluded another Rotary year. Members inducted incoming officers, reviewed accomplishments from the past year under outgoing President Nichoel Akers, discussed preparations for incoming President Camille's installation dinner, and presented both the community donation and Citizen of the Year award.
The club described Trickey as someone who consistently goes "above and beyond" in serving the community, making her selection for the 2026 honor especially meaningful.
A Tradition of Service Dating Back More Than 80 Years
The Rotary Club of Tomball has been serving the community since 1945, when local business leaders organized the club as World War II came to an end and Tomball entered a period of growth and opportunity.
Founded by community leaders including Allan H. Keefer, Millard Ford Sr., Will Holderrieth and A.B. Klein Sr., the club officially received its Rotary International charter on November 8, 1945, with its charter meeting held on December 27, 1945. Since then, the organization has remained dedicated to Rotary's mission of "Service Above Self," supporting local projects, nonprofit organizations, scholarships and community initiatives throughout the Tomball area.
More than eight decades later, that tradition continues through investments in organizations like Tidy Up Tomball.
Tidy Up Tomball Continues Building a Cleaner Community
Founded in 2023, Tidy Up Tomball was created in response to growing concerns about litter and its impact on the appearance, environment and quality of life throughout Tomball.
The nonprofit's mission is simple: eliminate waste and litter through community partnerships, volunteer engagement and environmental stewardship. By organizing twice-yearly cleanup events, the organization brings together residents, businesses, churches, schools and local government agencies to improve public spaces while strengthening community connections.
Its vision extends beyond picking up trash. Organizers say cleaner streets and parks contribute to a stronger sense of community pride, support economic growth and help preserve Tomball's character for future generations.
In November 2024, Tidy Up Tomball became an official affiliate of Keep Texas Beautiful, connecting the local organization with the statewide network dedicated to litter prevention, beautification and environmental education.
Record-Breaking Volunteer Support Demonstrates Community Pride
The organization's momentum has continued to grow with each cleanup.
Its Spring 2025 Community Cleanup collected a then-record 7,000 pounds of trash, followed by an even larger achievement during the Fall 2025 Community Cleanup, when more than 400 volunteers removed 13,300 pounds of litter across 56 cleanup routes throughout Tomball.
The event attracted the largest volunteer turnout in the organization's history and resulted in nearly as much trash being collected as the previous four cleanup events combined.
Volunteer participation has reflected broad community engagement. Since the organization began, more than 2,000 volunteers have registered, with participants ranging from school-aged children to retirees. Nearly half of all volunteers have been under the age of 18, illustrating the organization's success in encouraging youth involvement and fostering a culture of civic responsibility among future generations.
Support also extends well beyond Tomball city limits, with volunteers regularly traveling from nearby communities including Spring, Magnolia, Cypress and Houston to participate.
Community Leadership Behind the Mission
Tidy Up Tomball is led by a volunteer board representing a cross-section of the local community, including business owners, community advocates and civic leaders.
Alongside President Amanda Trickey, Executive Directors include Jonetta Barnett, Jackie Younger and Florine Ellis, supported by directors and committee members representing local businesses, construction, real estate, insurance, videography and community organizations.
Their collective efforts help organize cleanup logistics, recruit volunteers, secure sponsors and coordinate with the City of Tomball Public Works, Tomball Police Department, Tomball Fire Department and numerous community partners that make each event possible.
Looking Ahead to Fall 2026
With additional support from the Tomball Rotary Club, Tidy Up Tomball is preparing for its next community-wide cleanup later this year.
Residents interested in volunteering, sponsoring an event or learning more about the nonprofit can find information through Tidy Up Tomball's website and social media channels, where future cleanup dates, volunteer registration and event details will be announced.
The Rotary Club's donation and Amanda Trickey's Citizen of the Year recognition serve as reminders that meaningful community change often begins with neighbors willing to invest their time, resources and leadership for the benefit of others.
As Tomball continues to grow, partnerships between organizations like the Rotary Club and Tidy Up Tomball demonstrate how volunteerism, civic engagement and shared responsibility continue to help preserve the character of the community residents proudly call home.
