Some anniversaries come around every year. This one won't happen again in our lifetime.

As the nation prepares to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, Harris County Precinct 4 is inviting residents of Cimarron to be part of a community celebration that combines history, entertainment, and plenty of family fun. The free America 250 event will take place Friday, July 3, 2026 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Weekley Community Center in Cypress, offering an evening where neighbors can kick off the Independence Day weekend together.

Whether you're bringing young children, meeting up with friends, or simply looking for something festive to do close to home, the event has activities planned throughout the evening.

Among the highlights is a performance by Danger The Magician, a nationally recognized entertainer known for his interactive, comedy-filled magic shows. Guests can also enjoy live music from the CC Rider Band, pose for photos with superhero characters, and take part in a history-themed scavenger hunt that gives a nod to America's milestone birthday.

There will also be plenty to keep younger attendees busy, including face painting, balloon artists, children's crafts, carnival games, and yard games. And because no community celebration is complete without a few treats, free hot dogs, popcorn, and cotton candy will be available while supplies last.

Hosted at the Weekley Community Center, the celebration also shines a light on one of Precinct 4's busiest community gathering places. Located along Greenhouse Road in Cypress, the center regularly hosts fitness classes, educational programs, community meetings, special events, and recreational activities for residents throughout the year. On July 3, it will transform into the backdrop for one of the area's largest celebrations of America's semiquincentennial.

Harris County Precinct 4 officials say the event is an opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate the diversity, innovation, and opportunities that have shaped the nation over the past 250 years. Commissioner Lesley Briones and the Precinct 4 team are encouraging families from across western Harris County to join in what they describe as a once-in-a-lifetime celebration.
