Williamsburg Colony Residents: What to Expect This Fourth of July—Plus Important Fireworks and Pet Safety Tips

July 02 2026

As Williamsburg Colony neighbors prepare to celebrate Independence Day, residents should also prepare for something else that often comes with the holiday: a lot more fireworks.

Because Williamsburg Colony is located in unincorporated Harris County, the use of consumer fireworks is generally legal, unlike within many city limits where they are prohibited. This year, celebrations may be even more active than usual as communities across the country commemorate America's 250th birthday, making it likely that fireworks displays—both organized and backyard celebrations—will continue throughout the evening.

For residents, that means balancing holiday fun with consideration for neighbors, pets, veterans, young children, and others who may be sensitive to loud noises.

What Williamsburg Colony Residents Should Know About Fireworks

Since the Fourth of July falls on a Saturday this year, fireworks activity is expected to continue well into the evening.

If excessive noise continues after approximately 11 p.m., residents who have concerns may contact the Harris County Precinct 5 Constable's Office at 281-463-6666.

For emergencies, always call 911.

The Precinct 5 Constable's Office also encourages residents to report suspicious activity or ongoing neighborhood concerns through its non-emergency line, helping deputies respond appropriately while keeping emergency resources available for urgent situations.

The Fourth of July Can Be One of the Busiest Days for Lost Pets

While fireworks are often the highlight of Independence Day celebrations, they're one of the leading reasons pets become frightened and run away.

According to the Houston SPCA, loud booms, unfamiliar visitors, open gates, and outdoor festivities create the perfect conditions for anxious animals to escape. Fortunately, a little preparation can go a long way.

Houston SPCA Chief Veterinarian Dr. Roberta Westbrook encourages pet owners to take several simple steps before the festivities begin.

Update Your Pet's Microchip and ID

Before the holiday weekend, verify that your pet's microchip registration and ID tags include your current phone number and contact information.

The Houston SPCA reunites approximately 300 lost pets every year because they were properly microchipped, making this one of the most effective ways to help a lost pet return home quickly.

Create a Safe Space Indoors

If your pet becomes nervous around fireworks, consider keeping them inside in a quiet room before the evening celebrations begin.

Closing windows, turning on a television, radio, or calming music, and providing familiar bedding can help reduce anxiety. If guests are coming over, be mindful that open doors can provide an easy escape route for frightened animals.

If you're planning to attend a public fireworks show, it's generally safest to leave pets comfortably indoors at home rather than bringing them along.

Exercise Before Fireworks Begin

One of the best ways to reduce anxiety is helping pets burn off energy earlier in the day.

A long walk, active playtime, or backyard games can leave dogs more relaxed once fireworks begin. Food puzzles, favorite toys, and special pet-safe treats can also help keep them occupied throughout the evening.

Keep Holiday Foods Away From Pets

Cookouts often include foods that can be dangerous for dogs and cats.

The Houston SPCA recommends avoiding:

  • Chicken bones
  • Corn on the cob
  • Chocolate
  • Avocado
  • Onions
  • Alcohol

Many of these foods can cause choking hazards, intestinal blockages, or toxic reactions that may require emergency veterinary care.

Instead, consider making simple pet-friendly frozen treats using pureed watermelon or pumpkin recipes designed specifically for pets.

Outdoor Safety Matters Too

If your pet spends time outside during the holiday, be sure they always have:

  • Plenty of fresh drinking water
  • Access to shade
  • Secure fencing with no escape gaps

Also keep pets away from fireworks, sparklers, fire pits, sunscreen, citronella products, and alcoholic beverages, all of which can pose health risks if ingested or encountered too closely.

Thinking About Adding a New Family Member?

For families considering pet adoption over the holiday weekend, the Houston SPCA Adoption Center will be open on July 4 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., offering an opportunity to meet animals looking for permanent homes. The Houston SPCA Adoption Center is located at 7007 Old Katy Rd, Houston, TX 77024.

Celebrating Responsibly Helps Everyone Enjoy the Holiday

The Fourth of July is one of Williamsburg Colony's most festive weekends, and with this year's nationwide celebration marking America's 250th birthday, many residents can expect a busier-than-usual evening of neighborhood celebrations.

By celebrating responsibly, keeping pets secure, respecting neighbors, and knowing where to turn if concerns arise, residents can help make the holiday enjoyable for the entire community.

For non-emergency concerns after approximately 11 p.m., residents may contact the Harris County Precinct 5 Constable's Office at 281-463-6666. In an emergency, always call 911.
